We welcome new members who are passionate about art

If you are thinking about joining the Society, why not come along for a free sample session first? Please let us know when you plan to come so we can give you all the details about membership and answer any queries when you arrive. Just send us a message via the contact form on this website.

Please bring some samples of your artwork, so we can get a sense of your previous interest and experience. It doesn’t have to be a portrait or life drawing. In fact, the more variety the better.

To be fair to our members who pay a full year subscription, we do not provide a pay per session option.

Please note that as the classes feature nude models the session is suitable for adults only

Most sessions are held on Fridays, although a few are on Mondays.  Many of them are held alongside exhibitions in the galleries, so our dates vary depending on whether or not this is practicable.  There are 44 sessions throughout the year.

Diversity is encouraged.  Our members work in many different media and develop their own styles.

Please note that we do not provide tuition. The sessions are intended for practising artists (professional or amateur) who can benefit and be inspired by working in a very positive atmosphere, alongside other talented artists and models.

The annual subscription for 2026 is £365. All 44 drawing/painting sessions are included in this one-off fee. There are no additional costs. You can join at any time during the year as long as there are vacancies. The annual fee is then reduced to take account of the number of months in the year that remain.

We do not provide art materials, although we do have drawing boards and some easels available on a first come, first served basis.

The sessions start promptly at 6pm, though artists usually arrive in plenty of time to set up, catch up with friends and see the other artwork on display.

Sessions last until 8.15pm, with a 15 minute break at 7:00pm for tea and biscuits.

With thanks to Irene Lafferty, Alexandra Veres, Lesley Dabson, Shirley Maher, Desmond Sloane, Rachel Lindsey-Clark and Diana Havenhand (Smartphone view - IL, MH, LD, RL-C, SM, DH, AV) for the images on this page
